Nyon is well served by trains with one line going along the shore of Lake Geneva and another going up into the Jura Mountains along the Swiss-French border. Today we decided to take that second train - the Nyon - St Cergue - La Cure line, and explore the Jura area to seek out a hiking route for later in the week. We took the train to the terminus at La Cure and we ate a late lunch at the Brasserie L'Arbezie Franco-Suisse, where the restaurant is in France and the bar in Switzerland. Unfortunately we arrived after the kitchen was officially closed and the only dish available was a dish of shredded potatoes and onions in a cream sauce topped with a slab of melted cheese. That was lots of carbs and calories for hiking, but also kind of slumber inducing! After lunch we explored around La Cure a bit and decided that when we returned to hike we would use Givrine for a base (two stops shy of La Cure). And that we would bring our own lunch next time!!

Laura and I landed in Geneva on Friday August 23 and took a 30 minute taxi ride up the coast of Lac Leman (aka Lake Geneva) to the lovely lakeside town of Nyon, where we are staying for a week. It is Sunday today and we have been taking it relatively easy so far, getting over our jet lag. We swam for a while in the lake on Saturday and then did a quick boat trip across the lake in the early evening to Yvoire France for a cocktail, before returning to Nyon for dinner. Today we took a train to Rolle, a picturesque town further up the coast, and then found we could catch a paddle steamer from there back to Nyon.

We love this town of Nyon - it is beautiful, peaceful, clean and full of friendly restaurants and even friendlier people. And we are fortunate this time in our hotel choice which is Hotel Le Rive, right down by the water and the ferry pier.

We docked at Seward at 6am and managed to delay getting off the ship until 9am - did I mention we are not morning people? We took a car transfer to Anchorage enjoying gorgeous views along the way. In Anchorage we had a late lunch at Simon & Seafort's Saloon & Grill and a delightful dinner at Crush wine bar. The next day it was back on Delta for a whole day of flying home to Austin.

Another great cruise under our belt ... and we booked another while on board. Stay tuned to learn where next. :-)
